Apple cautions against using uncertified chargers for your Apple Watch.
Are you using an uncertified charger to charge your Apple Watch? If you are, Apple has warned that this can reduce battery life and charge more slowly over time.
As spotted by MacRumors, Apple notes on its support page that Apple Watch owners should only charge with Apple-made chargers and Apple MFi-certified chargers. If this is not done, the battery life may decrease over time, charging will slow down and the beep will sound repeatedly.
However, if you are unable to identify official Apple accessories or Apple MFi devices, Apple has listed a few points and images that may help you identify them.
“Genuine Apple charging connectors are white. Some Apple Watch chargers have text and regulatory markings on the charging cable,” Apple notes. It added, “Non-Apple chargers may have different colors, text, or other patterns on the charging connector surface.”
In addition, it has also listed the model numbers that come with the official Apple Watch chargers and they are as follows: A1570, A1598, A1647, A1714, A1768, A1923, A2055, A2056, A2086, A2255, A2256, A2257, A2257, A2258 , A2652, A2879 .
There is also another way to check the manufacturer of your Apple Watch charger:
You can connect the Apple Watch charger to your Mac, go to the Apple menu, go to System Preferences and click General in the sidebar. Then click About, then System Report, click USB, and finally select the watch charger to view the information.
However, it is common for people to buy things like chargers and cables cheaply, but this is often the cause of many accidents and in this case, reduced lifespan. So even if you save money initially by buying a non-branded charger or cable, it will bite you in the long run. We recommend buying only first-party or certified third-party chargers.
